Blessed Michael J. McGivney
Blessed Michael Joseph McGivney (August 12, 1852 – August 14, 1890) is the founder of the Knights of Columbus. He was an American Catholic priest from New Haven, Connecticut who served at a local parish and developed a mutual aid and insurance organization for immigrants and their families. Today, the Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic fraternal organization. On May 27, 2020, Pope Francis announced that Father McGivney had been approved for beatification, which officially occurred on October 31, 2020.
What is the Fourth Degree?
The Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus is the highest level within the organization. It emphasizes patriotism and civic duty. Members of the Fourth Degree, often known for their distinctive regalia and participation in ceremonial events, are committed to promoting faith and patriotism through acts of service, public witness, and support for veterans and first responders. They strive to exemplify the Order’s principles of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism in their local communities and beyond.
