Our Founder

Blessed Michael J. McGivney

Blessed Michael Joseph McGivney (August 12, 1852 – August 14, 1890) is the founder of the Knights of Columbus.  He was an American Catholic priest from New Haven, Connecticut who served at a local parish and developed a mutual aid and insurance organization for immigrants and their families. Today, the Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic fraternal organization. On May 27, 2020, Pope Francis announced that Father McGivney had been approved for beatification, which officially occurred on October 31, 2020.

What is the Fourth Degree?
